Question of the day: How to verify the authenticity of the Torah?
Community
This question arises for many people who seek support not only in faith, but also in history and facts. After all, if the Torah is the basis of the Jewish tradition, it is important to understand how its text is authentic and unchanging.Let's start with the Torah scroll. Unlike ordinary books, it is rewritten according to extremely strict laws: it is forbidden to write from memory, each letter is checked against a standard, and the slightest mistake makes the scroll unusable. There are 304,805 letters in the text, and each has a meaning. These rules have been in force for millennia and create a unique mechanism for protecting text from distortion. The story gives an impressive result. The Jewish people have been scattered throughout the world for centuries: from Yemen to Europe, from North Africa to the Caucasus. Communities have often been completely isolated from each other for hundreds of years. And when in modern times it became possible to compare the Torah scrolls from different countries, it turned out: there are only single differences between all the kosher scrolls — exclusively in spelling, which does not affect the content. For any ancient text, this is almost unbelievable.Archaeology also contributes. Although the wanderings of the desert left no material traces, the events of the Exodus are reflected in Egyptian sources, notably the Ipuwer papyrus, which describes calamities remarkably similar to the Egyptian carcasses. In addition, the very existence of the people of Israel in the Land of Canaan for one and a half thousand years is a historical fact, confirmed by numerous finds.A logical question arises: if the Torah was a fake, when and how could this happen? To do this, it would be necessary to simultaneously replace all the scrolls in a people that did not have a single center of power, and also to convince people to abandon the text that they knew by heart and studied from childhood. History does not know evidence of such an operation. Therefore, the combination of a strict tradition of rewriting, scattered communities, historical data and archaeological parallels leads to the conclusion that the text of the Torah that we read today corresponds with striking accuracy to the original source. It is this continuity of transmission that is one of the main confirmations of its truth.sourcehttps://toldot.com/
Question to the Rabbi: Who created evil?
Community
Issue“Who created evil?”inevitably appears before anyone who reflects on faith. If the Almighty is absolute good, as Tegilim says, then how is evil possible in the world? Rabbi Reuven Kuklin explains: G-d created everything that exists — both good and evil. But the meaning of evil is fundamentally different from how we are used to perceiving it.Ramhal in the book Daat Twoonoth writes that evil is a special, completely new reality. Before the creation of the world, it had no analogue, because in the Most High there is not the slightest hint of evil. At the same time, in His infinite power, G-d is able to create even what is opposite to Him. This is not a contradiction, but a manifestation of His absolute power.Evil was not created as an independent value and not as an equal opponent of good. Its purpose is to give a person freedom of choice. Without the ability to choose evil, a person would be programmed for good and deprived of real responsibility. Freedom of choice involves risk, internal struggle, and the possibility of error. It is in this space of choice that a person becomes a person. From the Torah's perspective, evil is not the ultimate goal. It is temporary and meant to be overcome. The prophet Yeshayahu conveys the words of the Most High: “I create light and create darkness… I, the Lord, do all these things.” Even what we call evil is within the Divine plan and serves a higher purpose.Vilensky Gaon explains that the words of the Torah “very good” mean not just the presence of good, but the perfect good. A world in which evil exists, but it is subordinated to a higher plan and will eventually be eliminated, is deeper and more complete than a world without choice and struggle. For Noahides, this approach is especially important: it teaches us to see in the world not chaos, but meaning. Evil exists so that a person can consciously choose good. And it is this choice that makes goodness real, and a person responsible and worthy of reward.

The foundation of Hasidism of the 📘 HaBaD: "Tora Or" and "Likutey Tora"
Community
"Tora Or"— a collection of Hasidic Maamars by Alter Rebe, the founder of Hasidism of the HaBaD. The Maamars were collected, edited, and prepared for printing by his grandson, Reb Tsemakh Tzedek. The book contains maamaras to the weekly chapters of the Torah from the booksBereshit andShmot. The second volume of this corpus was printed under the title"Likutey Tora"N o t a r yThese books became one of the most important works of Hasidism of the Chabad. It is customary to study weekly the maamarasassociated with the weekly section of the Torah; this order of study is called"Hasidic Weekly Chapter". The Rebbe has repeatedly emphasized that this kind of study is not an appendix, but forms the basis of the inner understanding of the Torah and has special power in bringing about Liberation.📜How this work was created and publishedIn a letter on the occasion of the first edition, Rebbe Tsemach Tzedek wrote:“The Torah of Or, now printed… contains most of the Maamar and Derushim from 5556 (תקנ״ו) to the end of 5572 (תקע״ב), many of which our Rebbe himself carefully reviewed, edited, and gave his holy approval for their printing. The book includes two chapters.”Initially, it was planned to print both volumes at the same time, but due to denunciations and subsequent closure of Jewish printing houses in Russia, only the first volume was published. Only later, in תר״ח (1848), the second volume was published in Zhytomyr —"Likutey Tora"N o t a r yIn subsequent editions, notes, indexes and sources were added to the book, many of which were prepared and edited by the Rebbe himself, which greatly deepened and systematized the study.📖Place in the teachings of the HaBaD and the order of studyThe Rebbe called"Tora Or" and"Likutey Tora""The Oral Torah of Hasidism"emphasizing that it is in them that the internal dimension of the Written Torah is revealed. The maamars of these books are not just for the select few — the Rebbe insisted that they be studied by everyone, at their own level.Even if the content seems complicated, the Rebbe noted that maamaras need to be studied at least superficially, and if possible — to delve deeper. He also stressed that the first part of the maamara contains the main idea of the whole presentation, so it is especially important to master at least it.In recent years, the Rebbe has re-emphasized that the constant study ofthe "Hasidic Weekly Chapter"From"Tora Or" and"Likutey Tora"— is one of the effective means of accelerating true and complete Liberation.Source:📖Lubavitcher calendar
Question to the Rabbi: Why believe in G-d?
Community
There is a widespread belief that people come to faith only because of weakness or life failures. However, Jewish philosophy looks at it differently: faith is not an escape from reason, but its continuation.Jewish tradition never contrasted faith and thought. Even the forefather Abraham came to the idea of the One Creator not through revelation, but through an independent analysis of the world. Observing order, harmony and regularity in nature, he concluded that the world has a Master. Moreover, he was ready to go against all his entourage for the sake of truth. It is not for nothing that he is called "Ivri" — the one who switched sides. This quest for truth is embedded in the Jewish people as a spiritual heritage. In Judaism, faith is not a refusal to ask questions, but a willingness to ask them honestly. Where the mind can test, it tests: history, tradition, the continuity of the transmission of the Torah, the fulfillment of prophecy. Where verification is not possible, faith based on trust in the source begins. This is how knowledge is arranged in any sphere of life: we trust doctors, scientists, witnesses of the past, without checking everything personally.Faith also affects the quality of life. A person who recognizes the Creator does not live in a chaos of accidents, but in a world of meaning and purpose. She understands that not everything depends only on her, and therefore she does not collapse because of failures and does not get angry because of the successes of others. Such faith forms responsibility, inner freedom and the ability for moral growth.Another thing is important: there is no emptiness. Denying God, a person still believes in something — in ideology, in science as an absolute, in money, in himself. The only difference is whether she realizes it or not. Judaism offers a faith tested by millennia of reflection, debate, books, questions and answers.Belief in G-d is not a rejection of the mind, but a choice to seek the truth more deeply than the usual comfort. And for those who are really looking, this path remains open.

Weekly chapter "Bo"

Liberation — not only from Egypt, but also from its own internal bordersThe chapter “For” tells about the culmination of the Exodus from Egypt — the last punishments, the Passover commandment and the very liberation of the Jewish people. But, as the Rebbe emphasizes, the Torah never speaks only about past history — it appeals to a person of every generation.🔑“Egypt” as a spiritual restrictionThe word "Mizraim" (Egypt) comes from the root "meizar" — cramped, limited. In a spiritual sense, Egypt is a state where the animal soul binds and obscures the divine soul, preventing it from fully revealing itself. The exit from Egypt is a process of liberation from internal constraints: habits, fears, inertia of thinking that prevent a person from serving the Almighty with joy and fullness.🌙Liberation begins in the darkMost of the executions took place during the day, but the Exodus itself took place at night. The Rebbe explains:the true strength of the Jewish people is the ability to turn darkness into light, not just to avoid darkness. It is at the darkest moment that the higher Divine world is revealed, which does not depend on the state of the world.🫓Matzah — a symbol of inner simplicityThe matzah that the Jews ate when they left Egypt is the “bread of faith.”It symbolizes bitumen — inner modesty and selflessness, when a person gets rid of the "bloated ego" and discovers the Divine beginning in himself.Without this, real liberation is impossible.🚀Withdrawal from Egypt — DailyThe Rebbe emphasizes:the commandment to “rememberthe Exodus from Egypt” means that every day a person must leave his personal “Egypt”, rising to a new spiritual level. This is how we bring the final liberation closer, when all restrictions, both external and internal, will disappear.🕊️ May the chapter “For” give each of us the strength to go beyond our own limits and reveal the Divine Light in our lives.SHABBAT SHALOMSource:📖 Lubavitcher calendar
A special letter written by the Lubavitcher Rebbe

A special letter written by the Lubavitcher Rebbe on how to celebrate the yorzite of his father-in-law — Rebbe RAYATSA — 10 ShevatRosh Hodesh Shvat 5711Brooklyn, New York, U.S.Our Hasidim (אנ״ש), the disciples of "Timimim" and all who are related or belong to my teacher and father-in-law, Rebbe (RAYATSA), may the memory of the righteous be blessed, may the Almighty protect them and give them life.Peace and blessings! In response to numerous questions about the detailed order of the tenth of Shevat — the day of yorzait of my teacher and father-in-law, Rebbe — I propose the following schedule:On Holy Saturdaythat precedes yorzait, one should try to get aliyah to the Torah. If the number of aliyot is not enough, you can read the Torah in several rooms, but do not increase the number of called ones.Care should be taken that the maftir is the most respected of those present — with the consent of the majority of the minyan — or by lot.Pre-selectthose who will lead the prayers on the day of yorzait; it is desirable to distribute: one — Maariv, the second — Shaharit, the third — Minha, so that more Hasidim will receive this honor.Light a candlewhich will burn for all twenty-four hours. If possible, wax.Five candles should be lit during prayers. After Prayer(in the morning — after reading Tegilim) the one who leads the prayer, studies (and completes) the 24th chapter of the treatise "Kelim" and the 7th chapter of the treatise "Mikvaot". Then he says the mishnah "Rabbi Hananya ben Akashya...". In whispers, a few lines from Tania, followed by Kadishd 'Rabanan. After the Maaric Prayer— they repeat by heartthe part of the maamar "Bati le Gani". If there is no one who knows by heart, they learn from the book. It is the same after the morning prayer, and it is completed after the Minha. In the morning before the prayer, study one section of the Taniah. Likewise, after the Minha prayer. The morning before the prayereveryone gives a donation for matters related to Rebbe RAYACH — for themselves and for each family member. Likewise — in front of Minkhoi. After morning prayer and repetition of the Hasidic teachings, everyone writes a letter to the Rebbe. Those who are honored to be on the yechidut or at least see the face of Rebbe RAYAZ, let them imagine themselves standing in front of him when writing the letter. Then enclose a letter between the pages of the maamaru, kuntres or book of his teachings and send it (if possible — the same day) to be read on his oil.During the day— to study the sections of the Mishnah by the letters of his name.During the day— to conduct a Hasidic farbrangen.Take time to tell family members about Rebbe RAYAZ and his lifelong ministry.During the day— to visit synagogues and houses of study of the city (to those who are suitable for this), to repeat there an expression or teaching from his teachings, to explain his love for each Jew, to inform and explain his decrees regarding the daily reading of Tehilim, the study of Humash from Rashi, and in proper places — also the study of "Tania" on an annual schedule. If possible — in the format of a paint brand.During the day— to visit (to those who are capable of doing so) the places of assembly of religious youth, as well as, if possible, in peaceful ways — and young people who are not yet religious; to explain to them the special love of Rebbe RAYAZ for them, his demands, hope and confidence in them that eventually they will fulfill their mission to strengthen Judaism and spread the Torah with the ardor, energy and vitality inherent in youth. It is clear that if conditions do not allow, you can extend all of the above on days close to yorzite, especially next Saturday.May the Almighty hasten the coming of our Deliverer, and may those who lie in the dust awake and sing, and may our Rebbe Rayatz among them announce to us the wonders and lead us on the path that rises to the House of G-d.📖Lubavitcher calendar
