Story Page:“Palestinian Passports”
Community
“Palestinian passports” were documents issued by the British Mandate Administration in the Middle East.Pro-Palestinian pages often distribute images of old Palestinian passports as “proof” that an Arab state called Palestine once existed on this land. However, this is misleading. After the Romans suppressed the Jewish uprising in 135 AD, Judea was renamed Syria of Palestine — to humiliate the Jews and erase their connection to this land. The new name referred to the Philistines, long defeated biblical enemies of Israel. For centuries, Europeans continued to refer to the region as Palestine. The Arabs for the most part considered it part of Greater Syria. The Jews called this land Eretz Yisrael — the Land of Israel, but at the same time used the name "Palestine" in the international and administrative contexts. After the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in the First World War, Great Britain received a mandate from the League of Nations — the predecessor of the United Nations — to govern this territory. It is important to clarify: it was not a British colony in the conventional sense. The British Mandate meant the powers granted to Great Britain by the League of Nations for the temporary administration of the region. The authorities of the administration included, in particular, the issuance of passports and the introduction of currency. The Mandate also provided for the establishment of a national focal point for the Jewish people. The Jews adopted the name “Palestine” and used it in the names of important institutions and organizations: The Palestine Post, Palestine Airways, the Palestine Orchestra, and the Palestine national football team. These were Jewish institutions and organizations. The Arabs, on the contrary, rejected the idea of a separate Palestinian national unit and insisted that the territory was part of Syria. So those “Palestinian passports” were not the passports of an ancient Arab state called Palestine. They were issued by the British Mandate administration to both Jews and Arabs.Passports and currency, which are sometimes used as proof of the existence of a Palestinian state, were in fact the usual administrative means necessary for the daily life of the population of the territory under mandate administration. These were documents of the British Mandate administration, drawn up in three languages — Hebrew, Arabic and English — and not passports of an Arab nation-state.Source : thenationofisraellives

📌13 Menachem-Ava 5645 (July 25, 1885) — Yortsaite (anniversary of the departure from this world) Sir Moshe (Moses) Montefiore. On this day, at the 101st year of his life, one of the most famous benefactors and defenders of the Jewish people, Sir Moshe Montefiore, left our world.Sir Montefiore was born into a religious Jewish family. He made a significant fortune by founding, with the support of Rothschild, the first life insurance company in England, as well as the first European company for lighting streets with gas lamps. In the early 1820s, as a member of the Council of the Jewish Sephardic Community of London, he invested heavily and made many efforts to develop Jewish education, founded a hospital, a society for helping poor Jewish brides, and donated thirteen houses to the community.Subsequently, he participated in the struggle for the right of Jews to be elected to parliament and to hold public office without taking an oath "in the true Christian faith." He gave the British government a large loan to abolish slavery in the British colonies, and after his election in 1837 as sheriff of London and the county of Middlesex, he actually achieved the abolition of the death penalty there. From the late 1830s, Montefiore became the acknowledged leader of English Jewry. He made great efforts to protect Jews — victims of "blood libel" and lawlessness. Thanks to his activities, numerous settlements were built in Eretz Yisrael, and the windmill ("Montefiore Mill") built by him in Jerusalem became one of theattractions of the city.At his expense, the first Jewish quarter outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, Mishkenot Sha 'ananim, was built, and later, at the expense of the foundation founded by Montefiore, the quarter of Yemin Moshe, named after him, was built.source: chabad.odessa

📌14 menachem-avah 5561 (July 24, 1801) — Alter Rebe settled in the city of Lyady. After the second arrest of Rabbi Schneur-Zalman (Alter Rebbe), the authorities wished that this Jew, who caused her a lot of trouble, would settle in St. Petersburg. This upset the Hasidim very much, because the way to the capital was closed for them.In those days, Prince Lyubomyrsky was in St. Petersburg. One of the Hasidim told him about the Alter Rebbe and that the authorities wanted to leave him in St. Petersburg. The prince met with Rabbi Schneur-Zalman and said that if he agreed to settle in one of the cities that belonged to the prince, he, Lubomirsky, would be able to convince the officials. 📌15 menachem-avah in 2487 (1274 BC) — the people of the Exodus generation stopped dying. The story with the scouts showed that the Jews were not yet ready to conquer the land of Canaan and make it the Holy Land. Then G-d decreed that all the people of this generation would die in the desert, and their children would enter this land. For thirty-eight years, Jews died in the desert, and they died only on one day of the year — 9 Av. Thirty-eight years later, on the 10th of Av, they woke up and did not find a single dead person in their camp.Believing that they had made a mistake in their calendar calculations, they waited a few more days for death. And only when they saw the full moon in the sky, they realized that it was already the 15th of Av — the middle of the month. This meant that there was no error in the calculations: just the execution of the verdict was completed, and the new generation was ready to enter Eretz Israel.📌15 menachem-avah (circa 13th century BC) — the ban on marriages between representatives of different tribes of Israel was lifted.Previously, in order to equitably distribute the Holy Land among the twelve tribes of Israel, restrictions were placed on marriages between people from different tribes. The whole territory of Eretz Yisrael was divided between the knees by lot, and according to the laws of the Torah, a woman who inherited a land allotment from her father was forbidden to marry a man from the other tribe, so that their children, who belonged to the father's tribe, did not pass the inherited land from one tribe to another. This rule lasted for fourteen years — only during the life of the generation that conquered and inhabited the Holy Land, from 2488 to 2503 (1273-1258 BC).After this restriction was lifted on April 15, this date became a kind of holiday for lovers.📌15 Menachem Ava (circa 1228 BC) — Benjamin's knee amnesty.📌15 Av became the day when the elders of Israel lifted the excommunication from the knee of Benjamin, which was also one of the reasons for the appearance of this holiday. The reason for excommunication was the position taken by the representatives of Benjamin's knee in the case of the "Concubine of Giva".After the Binyaminists refused to extradite the perpetrators, marriages between the Binyamin tribe and the other tribes of Israel were forbidden. Moreover, bloody battles began between the Binyaminists and the combined forces of the other knees, in which only six hundred men from the Binyamin knee survived. These events took place during the time of Judge Othniel ben Kenaz, who led the Jewish people from 2533 to 2573 (1228-1188 BC).📌15 menachem-avah 3187 (574 BC) — King Jeroboam's ban on visiting Jerusalem was lifted. After the death of King Shlomo (Solomon) in 2964 (797 BC), the unified Jewish kingdom was divided into two parts — the North and the South. The ruler of the Northern (Israelite) kingdom, Jeroboam ben Nawat, forbade his subjects to visit the capital of the Southern (Jewish) kingdom, Jerusalem, thereby depriving them of the opportunity to offer sacrifices in the Temple. To ensure the implementation of this decree, Yerovam placed bail on the roads. The ban (along with the pledges) was lifted only two hundred years later — on 15 Av 3187, under the reign of the last king of the Kingdom of Israel, Goshea ben Eila.📌15 menachem-avah 3908 (A.D. 148) — it is permitted to bury the defenders of Beitar. After the fall of Beitar — the last stronghold of the uprising led by Bar Kokhba — the Romans brutally cracked down on the captured defenders of the fortress. All of them were executed, and the Romans did not even allow the Jews to bury the dead.Such permission was obtained only fifteen years later. After the dead in Beitar were buried, another blessing was added to the blessing after the meal — “ha-Tov ve-ha-Meit”.source: chabad.odessa

📌16 menachem-avah 5689 (August 22, 1929) — The Sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef-Yitzchak (Rebbe Rajac), completed his trip to the Holy Land and traveled to the United States. Here's what eyewitnesses recall:“…More than five hundred people from Jerusalem, Hebron, Safed, Tiberias, and Petah Tikva escorted them to the station at Lodi Rebbe Rajaca. The train station could not accommodate everyone, so many people stayed outside.Climbing the step of the car, Rebbe Rajac blessed those present, and the train started. A large group of escorts went by the same train with the Rebbe to Rehovot. From Rehovot, Rebbe Rajac went to Egypt, and from there he sailed by ship to the United States. ”source: chabad.odessa

17 Menachem Ava 5689 (August 23, 1929) — pogrom in Hebron. The next three days passed in the city under the slogan: "Cut the Jews!"Sixty-seven Hebron Jews — men, women, and children — were killed, and many others wounded and maimed in a mutiny staged by their Arab neighbors. The surviving Jews fled to Jerusalem, and the ancient Hebron community, which had coexisted relatively peacefully with its Arab neighbors for several centuries, was destroyed. It was only after the Six-Day War in 1967 that the Jewish presence in the ancient Jewish capital was restored.18 menachem-awa, circa 3190 (circa 570 BC) — during the reign of King Ahaz, the western lamp in the Temple was extinguished.Ahaz king of Judah, who was in conflict with King Pekah of Israel, called upon the Assyrian king Tiglath-pileser for help by paying him with gold and silver from the Temple. The Assyrians defeated the Arameans, the allies of the Israelites, and about a decade and a half later, the next Assyrian ruler, Shalmaneser, destroyed the Northern (Israelite) kingdom and led the Jews captive from the ten tribes of Israel.source: chabad.odessa

Today is 13 Menachem Ava 5786Iom-yom“Speak of them when you sit in your house…” said our wise men, blessed be their memory: “The Scripture refers the words 'and speak of them'to the words of the Torah.”However, there are several different degrees in the study of the Torah itself, and all of them are explained here:“When you sit in your house” is the state of the soul Above, in the treasury of the soul, even before its descent downward, when it studies the Torah there.“And when you walk along the road” refers to the time when the soul descends from the world into the world, from degree to degree, until it comes to the lower world to incarnate in the material body. Then a person begins to walk the path of this world — until the days of old age and gray hair.To the words "and when you lie down" — when the time comes for the completion of her earthly path. But even then, the Torah protects a person, as explained in the sixth chapter of the Pirkei Avot treatise. And finally — "and when you get up", as it is said: "When you wake up, she will talk to you."📖Lubavitcher calendar
Chabad History : 🏛 How the 770 Eastern Parkway Became the Chabad World Center
Community
The beginning of the storyIn the spring of 1940, after a miraculous rescue from occupied Europe, Rebbe Rajac arrived in New York. Initially, he lived in the Greystone Hotel in Manhattan, but the Hasidim understood that the Chabad movement needed its own spiritual center — a place that would become the home of the Rebbe, the central synagogue, the headquarters of the movement and the place of study for yeshiva students.Unexpected findingA special committee was established to search for the appropriate building. After a long search, attention was drawn to the house at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights. It was built in 1933 as a luxurious mansion for a famous doctor. Subsequently, the owner experienced financial difficulties, the building was seized by the bank and put up for sale for only $30,000, although its construction cost about $200,000.Opposite NeighborsWhen it became known that the Rebbe was planning to buy this house, some local residents opposed it. They feared that the move of a large number of Hasidim would change the appearance of the area and affect the value of the property. According to the Hasidim, one of the Jews, seeing a petition against buying a house, defiantly broke it, after which the resistance gradually came to naught.Acquisition of a buildingAn urgent fundraiser was announced for the purchase. Despite wartime hardships and the precarious financial situation of many Hasidim, donations began to flow in from all sides. 12 Menachem Ava 5700 the deal was finalized and House 770 officially became the property of the Chabad movement.First steps in a new homeEven before the move, Rebbe Rajac personally inspected the building, indicated what the future synagogue should be, identified places for mezuzahs and asked to see even the basement. There he read the prayers of Mincha and Maar and blessed the new place. To equip the prayer room, the workers dismantled the wall between the two rooms. This is how the first prayer hall appeared, which today is known as "Hall a-Katan". A few days later, the Rebbe finally moved to a new house, and soon his solemn consecration took place with the brangen and the pronouncement of the Hasidic maamar. From one house to the whole worldThen no one could imagine that this relatively small house would become a symbol of the world Jewish revival. It is from 770 decades later that the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe will send thousands of schluchim to different parts of the world. Thousands of conversations and maamaras will be held here, prayers, farbrangens will be held, and the famous distribution of dollars will also go there.Today, the 770 Eastern Parkway is known all over the world, and its facade has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Chabad and modern Jewish history.Lubavitcher calendar
Chabad history. 🏛 770 Eastern Parkway: secrets, symbols and why this house is copied all over the world
Community
Part 2In the first part, we talked about how Chabad got its main home in Brooklyn. But how did this mansion turn into a place known to Jews in all corners of the world, and why did its number acquire a special symbolic meaningLet's look inside the 770 and learn about its main secrets!🔢 The mystery of the number 770The Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe often explained that the house number 770 is not just numbers on a sign, but a sign from Above. In the Jewish tradition of numerical values of letters — gematria — the number 770 corresponds to the word "Parazta" associated with the expression "Ufarazta" — "And you will spread!".This is one of the main calls of the Chabad: to bring the light and warmth of Judaism to all corners of the earth. In addition, the gematria of the expression "Beth Mashiach" — "House of Mashiach" — in Hebrew is also equal to 770.🚪 What the 770 HidesOutside, the 770 seems like a cozy three-story house, but inside it is a real maze that has grown over the years:• Ground floor: This includes the Small Hall, the Secretariat Room, and the famous Gan Eden HaTakhton corridor leading to the Rebbe's private office. It was in this office that the Rebbe received people for personal audiences.• Basement: When there were so many Hasidim that the house could no longer accommodate everyone, the basement 770 began to expand — underground and under neighboring buildings. Today, there is a huge synagogue, where thousands of people from all over the world gather for the holidays.• Second floor. There were Rebbe Rajaca's living rooms here. This floor is carefully preserved in its original form — almost nothing has changed there since 1950.• Third floor: Previously, it housed the apartment of the Gurari family, and later housed museum and library premises with valuable ancient manuscripts.📖 Special spiritual meaning: "Beit Rabeinu she-be-Bavel"In 1991, the Rebbe published a profound work called “Beit Rabbeinu she-ba-Bavel” — “Our Teacher's House in Babylon”. In it, the Rebbe explained in detail the spiritual role of the 770 in modern times.Just as the major synagogues of the great Jewish sages became foci of God's light in times of exile, so 770 became an important source of spiritual life and inspiration for an entire generation. The Rebbe also gave a Hasidic explanation: the sanctity of this place is so great that with the onset of Liberation, the spiritual power revealed in 770 will be united with the future Jerusalem Temple. The Hasidim say that the Rebbe treated this work with special trepidation and, after its publication, constantly carried a copy of the brochure in his prayer book.🌍 Phenomenon of 770 copies worldwideSurprisingly, the building 770 has many exact and stylized copies in different countries. It all started in 1980, when after a fire in the Jewish center of Los Angeles, the idea arose to erect a new building with the same facade. When the Rebbe was asked about this, he was very happy and supported the plan. And already in 1986, on the direct instructions of the Rebbe, the first exact copy of 770 was erected in Israel, in the village of Kfar-HABAD.Today, buildings with recognizable red brick facades and three pointed gables can be seen in different parts of the world: in Jerusalem, Safed, Milan, Melbourne, Buenos Aires and even in the mountains of India.⚡️ The house that never sleepsThe main secret of 770 is that this house never sleeps. Prayers, studies and festive gatherings take place here 24 hours a day, seven days a week.It is a living spiritual source from which Jewish communities around the world draw their strength.📖 Lubavitch calendar

Psychologist's page: Periods of the grieving process

Psychologist page:Periods of the burning process (theory of V. Volkan)In his work "Life after loss. The Psychology of Grief" American psychoanalyst Dr. Wamik Volkan together with journalist Elizabeth Zintl show that the experience of grief is determined by our past stories of loss and is individual for each person. Focusing on the most tragic of losses - death, researchers consider it among other losses: the separation of a spouse, the loss of a dream, ideal, friendship, homeland, even the former self. Bringing a unique insight into the psychodynamics of grief, V. Volkan and E. Zintl define normal or "uncomplicated" grief and trace the development of pathological grief. The generalization of known theoretical models of the burning process and the results of own observations and observations of some researchers allow us to single out critical periods of the burning process. The first 48 hours. The shock of the loss suffered and the refusal to believe what happened can manifest itself in the first hours. Emotionally, this is sometimes expressed by the fear of losing family members and friends (there is also a strong fear of losing oneself - both physically and mentally). The first week. The need to organize a funeral rite and other worries fill all the time, the feeling of loss is often transferred automatically, which is sometimes accompanied by a feeling of "decline", emotional and physical exhaustion. From 2 to 5 weeks. The dominant feeling is that you have been left behind by family and friends who have returned to their daily routines after the funeral. From 6 to 12 weeks. At this stage, the state of shock is replaced by an awareness of the reality of the loss. The spectrum of emotions experienced at this time is quite wide; a person feels a loss and has poor self-control.From 3 to 4 months. It begins with an alternation of "good and bad days". A person becomes irritable and impatient with frustration. In most cases, anger and a feeling of emotional regression appear, as a result of a decrease in immunity, somatic complaints, especially of an infectious and cold nature, increase.6 months. Depression begins. The burden of the experience weakens, but the oppressive emotions remain. Birthdays and holidays are especially hard to bear and can cause depression.12 months. The first anniversary of a death can be traumatic or a turning point, depending on the consequences of the year's suffering. From 12 to 24 months. This is the time of "absorption". A person who has survived a loss slowly returns to his former life. It is during this period that the words "heavy loss" and "grief" disappear from the vocabulary; life takes its toll.source: o.garkavets
