Our Dates: 29 Elul - 1 Tishrei

📌29 Elul before the creation of the world (3761 BC) — TheFifth Day of Creation. On this day, insects and inhabitants of the seas were created, including sea monsters like Livyatana, as well as birds. On the same day, they received the blessing of the Almighty “Be fruitful and multiply.” Unlike living creatures, the plant world created the day before did not receive much blessing, because successful ripening of fruits requires human prayer every time.📌29 elul 5549 (September 20, 1789) — Birthday of Rabbi Menachem-Mendel (Tsemakh-Tzedek).He was born on the eve of Rosh Hashanah in the family of Sholom Shakhno and Dvori-Leya, the second daughter of Alter Rebbe. Thenameof the child was given in honor of Rabbi Menachem-Mendel from Gorodok, who left this world on 1 Iyar 5548 (May 8, 1788).After the birth of the child, her grandfather, Alter Rebbe, gave the parents a cut of the canvas stored in him in order to wrap the child after her first bath, just like he did after the birth of his son Dov-Ber (Miteler Rebbe). Rebbe Tsemakh-Tzedek fought against the system of cantonists (the forcible surrender of young Jewish children to the Russian army) and the reform of Jewish education proposed by the tsarist government. This was not in vain, and in total he was arrested 22 times!______________________________________________________________________   🍎📖   __________________________________________________________________________________________________📌1 Tishrei  (3760 BC) — The Sixth Day of Creation. Creation of Adam and Eve: The First Fall. By the way, the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was anything (there are four opinions about this), but definitely not an apple. While in the Garden of Eden, Adam did not rest, but worked, and his job was to care for the garden. Of course, Adam did not use any sockets, pruners and dioxin sprayers. He just prayed and asked the Almighty to send rain at the right time and place of the garden and that He would bless the coming harvest. He asked — he blossomed, he did not ask — everything fell into decay. This was the landscape art of the first day of Creation.📌1 Tishrei 1565 (2105 BC) — The third flight of a dove from Noah's Ark.On the 307th day of the Flood, Noah released the dove from the ark for the third time (two previous flights see 17 and 23 elul). The pigeon did not return (it was not a carrier pigeon), and Noah realized that the waters of the Flood had receded and the earth had begun to dry up. On the same day, Noah removed the roof of the ark, but Noah himself and his family and all the other inhabitants of the ark remained on it for another 57 days, until 27 hashvan, until they were convinced that the surface of the Earth had finally dried up, and when the Almighty ordered them to come out of the ark and begin to settle the earth again.📌1 Tishrei 2084 (1677 BC) — TheBinding of Isaac.📌1 Tishrei 2084 (1677 BC) — Yorzeit (the anniversary of the departure from this world) of the wife of Abraham and the mother of Isaac Sarah. After 12 years inprison, Jacob's youngest son, Yosef, was released from prison, where he was imprisoned on false charges. From that moment, his dizzying career began, which led him to the second most important position in the state.📌1 Tishrei 5507 (September 15, 1746) — "Ascension of the soul" "raising of the soul" of the founder of Hasidism Rabbi Israel Baal Shem-Tov (Beshta) and his meeting with Moshiach. In a letter to his swagger, Rabbi Gershon Kutover, Rabbi Besht wrote: "In Rosh Hashanah 5507, as you know, seven times I carried out a"raising of the soul" and saw wonderful things in this vision, which I have not seen so far, from the day when I grasped my understanding... <... >...And I rose from one degree to another, until I entered the palace of Moshiach... <...>...And I asked Moshiach: "When will you come, Master?” And he said,“When will your sources spread outward (that is, when the teachings of Hasidism become the property of the world)!”.📌1 Tishrei 5684 (September 11, 1923) — The tradition of daf yomi, the daily study of one sheet of the Talmud, began.Daf Yomi ("daily sheet" (Hebrew, Yiddish — blat Hemorah) — proposed by Rabbi Meir Shapiro from Lublin, the procedure for studying the Talmud, according to which all Jews in the world study the same page of the Talmud every day. The study of each page takes one day, and at this pace all 2,711 pages of the Talmud "pass" in 7 years and 5 months. The study was started on 1 Tishrei 5684, and the current, 14th cycle, will end on June 7, 2027source:chabad.odessa

Gedaliah's Fast: Briefly about the main things
Community
The day after the end of Rosh Hashanah, a public fast was established — the Fast of Gedaliah. It was introduced by the prophets in memory of the tragic events that occurred shortly after the destruction of the First Temple — the third Tishrei in 3340 from the creation of the world.Gedaliah ben Ahikam, whom Nebuchadnezzar had appointed to lead the Jewish community remaining in the Land of Israel, was insidiously murdered by Ishmael ben Netanyahu. Together with Gedaliah, thousands of Jews were killed, and those who survived were forced into exile. Thus, the last center of Jewish life in the Holy Land was destroyed at that historical moment. In normal years, the third tishrei is fasted. If this day falls on Shabbat, fasting is postponed to the next day.According to the basic law, in the Lent of Gedaliah it is forbidden only to eat and drink. Some, as an additional restriction, already in the evening refrain from smearing the body, marital intimacy — except for the night on which the mikvah falls — washing, except when fasting falls on the eve of the Sabbath, as well as from dancing, having fun and listening to music. In the Lent of Gedaliah, it is allowed to buy new things, but not those that need to be blessed by Sheheyan:“Blessed art Thou, O Lord, our G-d, King of the Universe, who hast kept us alive, hast kept us safe, and hast brought us to this time.”The reason is that this day is a time of mourning. Therefore, in the evening, before the beginning of fasting, when eating is still allowed, you should not eat a fruit that has not yet been eaten this season and for which you need to say the blessing to "Sheeheian".The ban on eating and drinking takes effect at dawn — "amud ha-shahar". In Israel, it is about 72 minutes before sunrise, and according to other opinions — 90 minutes before sunrise. If a person goes to bed in the evening, it is seen as a silent acceptance of fasting. Therefore, a woman who plans to wake up and eat or drink before the onset of amud ha-shahar should clearly decide this for herself — at least mentally — even before going to bed. Otherwise, eating after waking up will be prohibited. According to Ashkenazi Halakha scholars, drinking can be allowed as a last resort.Patients, pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as women who give birth within thirty days after childbirth, are released from fasting. A woman who does not fast should limit herself to simple food. Those who are allowed to eat and drink can do so in the usual way and are not obliged to eat or drink small portions.A woman who needs to drink, but who can do without food, is allowed to drink, but forbidden to eat. Conversely, if she needs to eat but does not need to drink, she is allowed to eat but forbidden to drink. As long as there is no need for food or drink, the woman is obliged to fast. Since the patient has experienced improvement and fasting can no longer harm her health, she should continue to fast.It is clear that before fasting, every woman who doubts whether she is allowed to fast should clarify this issue with the rabbi. In each individual situation, the law may be different, so you can not rely on the recommendations that the rabbi gave to other people, even if the circumstances at first glance seem similar. All decisions must be made in accordance with the instructions of the physician and the rabbi. The unreasonable permission to eat or drink is a violation of fasting, and the unlawful prohibition to eat or drink is a violation of the commandment to preserve life and health.A person who eats and drinks during fasting, as required by the Law, fulfills an important commandment of the Torah. If the doctor believes that the patient does not need to eat or drink, but the patient himself feels that he needs food or drink, he should eat and drink. An exception is a situation when, in the opinion of the doctor, the consumption of food or drinks poses a threat to the patient's life.A woman who during fasting needs to take medicine that tastes like food or drink should consult with the rabbi whether she is allowed to do so due to her health condition.Medications that are not clearly considered food or drink are allowed during fasting. However, you should first try not to wash them down with water. If the medicine needs to be requested, it is worth using a drink with a bitter taste — for example, a very strong infusion of chamomile, which is bitter enough and at the same time does not harm health. Before fasting, it is allowed to take special means designed to facilitate fasting. But what if such a remedy needs to be taken on the second day of Rosh Hashanah or on Shabbat, after which fasting begins immediately? After all, it is forbidden to be treated on Shabbat and holidays, as well as to prepare these days for weekdays. Before the first day of Rosh Hashanah, you need to mix this product with food or dissolve it in drinks that will eat or drink on the second day of Rosh Hashanah or on Shabbat.Theobligationto fast comes into force for a boy from the age of thirteen, and for a girl from the age of twelve. Starting at the age ofnine, children are gradually taught to fast for a certain time, postponing their meals to a later hour than usual. In the Lent of Gedaliah, children should not be treated to sweets. They do not brush their teeth during public fasts. Anyone experiencing significant discomfort, if they do not brush their teeth, can rinse their mouth or even brush their teeth in the usual way, carefully watching not to swallow a single drop of water. It is also allowed to use a special mouthwash, as it is not suitable for drinking.Gedaliah's fast falls on one of the Ten Days of Repentance, during which special penitential prayers are recited — Slikhot.During the Minha - the day's prayer — the Ashkenazi instead of "Shalom Rav" say "Seven Shalom". In the Amida prayer, in the blessing of the Shomea Tefila, every woman who fasts reads the Aneina, a special insert for public fasting. Representatives of Sephardic communities read it during Shaharit and Minha, and Ashkenazim read it only during Minha.Fasting ends with the release of the stars. A woman who finds it difficult to wait for her husband to return from the synagogue can start eating and drinking immediately after the stars leave.source: Imrey Noam
🎧 A Voice from the Past: The Incredible Story of Rabbi Levi-Itzhak's Two Shofars
Community
📜It all started with an arrestImagine 1939. Soviet Chekists arrest Rabbi Levi-Itzhak Schneerson, the rabbi of Dnipropetrovsk and the father of the future Lubavitsky Rebbe. Two large family shrines remain in his house: the large black shofar of Rebe Maarash and the small white shofar of Tsemakh-Tzedek. There are difficult years ahead, exile and war, but these two mutton horns will pass through the hands of devoted people and miraculously survive.🖤How the black shofar was savedWhen Rabbi Levi-Itzhak was arrested, the Chekists accidentally did not notice the black shofar. The rabbi's wife, Rebbetzin Khan, took him with her to exile in Kazakhstan. A year later, one devoted Hasid decided to escape from the USSR with forged documents. Rebbetzin allowed him to take the shofar to save the shrine. He managed to take him abroad, and for several years he trumpeted him for the holidays. When the future Rebbe asked for his father's shofar back, the man immediately handed it over without any objection. Instead, the Rebbe gave him a handkerchief of his father-in-law with the words:"You trumpet the shofar — you can cover it with this handkerchief"Subsequently, the black shofar sounded again in the main synagogue 770.🤍Miracle with a white shofarThe story of the white shofar is reminiscent of the plot of the movie. At first, it was kept by a simple Jew in Alma-Ata, and before his death he handed it over to his friend named Yosef. Soon, Yosef himself was arrested and thrown into the camp for six years, but before his arrest, he managed to hand over the shofar to his comrade Hillel.Once, on a holiday, Hillel carried this shofar to the synagogue, accidentally let it into the road — and a trolleybus just went to it! Hillel froze in fear, but the trolleybus drove just over the shofar and didn't even scratch it. The man realized that this was a sign from above and returned the shofar to the owner.✈️The Path to FreedomIn 1964, the famous underground activist Reb Simkha Gorodetsky was able to leave the USSR. He decided to take a chance and transport the white shofar across the Soviet border, although there was almost no chance. But a miracle happened: the customs officers did not notice anything. So the white shofar got his freedom and got directly to the Lubavitcher Rebbe.✨Victory of the LightThese stories testify to how the sincere love and devotion of people helped to overcome any trials, save the shrines and keep the faith alive.📖Lubavitcher calendar

🛑Three additional psalms per month Elul: 94–96Ayom YomDuring a personal conversation ("yechidut") between Tsemakh-Tzedek and our Rebbe (Alter Rebbe), on the Friday of the weekly section "Ki tetse", 6 elul 5564, the Rebbe told him:On the Sabbath of the weekly chapter "Ki Tavo" in 5528, my teacher and mentor — Magid from Mezhirich - uttered the word of the Torah. He began with the verse, “And you shall return to the Lord your God,” and explained that the ministry of repentance — teshuvah — must be such that “the Lord” (Jud-Key-Wab-Key), the One who is above the worlds, becomes “your God” (Elokech). After all, the word "Elokim" in gematria is equal to the word "nature" ("ha-teva"), as it is said in the verse: "In the beginning Elokim created."The whole holy community ("havura kadisha") was in great awe of this teaching. Righteous Rabbi Meshulam-Zusya from Anipol said that he was not able to achieve such a high level of repentance, and therefore he would divide teshuvah into parts, because the word "teshuvah" is an abbreviation:📖Lubavitcher calendar
The Chabad Story: A Dynasty Burned by Fire: The Story of Tragedy and Light by Rebbetzin Sheina Hornstein
Community
📖Day of Remembrance and MourningEvery year, on the second day of Rosh Hashanah, the Lubavitcher Rebbe spoke Kaddish after his wife's sister. This day was the day of her death in the flamesof Treblinka, which cut short her earthly life, but left an eternal mark in the history of Hasidism.👑Noble rootsRebbetzin Sheina Hornstein — the third daughter of the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rebbe Rajac (Joseph Yitzchak Schneerson), and Rebbbetzin Nehami Dina — had a soul of incredible depth. Even in her childhood, her father quoted with trepidation her grandfather's words that little Sheindl had “extremely subtle feelings.”She was a woman of rare spiritual nobility, a direct link of a great dynasty, a descendant of the Chabad spiritual leaders.💍A happy marriage and a terrible warIn 1932, she married her cousin, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hornstein. They seemed to have a long life ahead of them, full of Torah light and Hasidism. But the Second World War began. When Rabbi Rajac miraculously escaped from the fire engulfed Europe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel could not leave his sick father. The life-saving visas that the Rebbe was desperate to smuggle across the ocean were hopelessly late. Shane and her husband remained in the midst of Nazi hell.🕯️Truth from the depths of TreblinkaFor many years, the family in America lived in terrible obscurity. It was not until 1950 that the awful truth was revealed. A witness from Treblinka, Mordechai Unred, spoke about life in the camp: in September 1942, Rebbetzin Shane lost her husband, who was sent to the gas chamber, and in Rosh Hashanah in 1943, her earthly life was cut short. Until the last moment, it remained a source of faith for all who were nearby.💎Eternal memory in the heartsThe pain of the loss was so great that in memory of her, the Rebbe inscribed her name on the tombstone of his wife, Rebbetzin Chai Mushka. For the rest of her life, Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka carefully kept a diamond ring presented by her sister with the words:This ring will bring you good luck".This story is a chronicle of boundless devotion, in which the names of the holy martyrs live in eternity, reminding us of the power of the spirit, which no fire can overcome.Source:Lubavitcher calendar

It is on the 10th of Tishrei that the Almighty weighs our actions and pronounces the final verdict. On this day, we strive to get as close as possible to the Almighty, we repent, pray. Every year, more and more Jews seek to study the Torah, traditions, commentaries of the wise, and much more.Source:toldot.com

Yom Kippur — The Day of Atonement — is the most important holiday in the Jewish calendar. The Ten Days of Repentance period begins with Rosh Hashanah and reaches its peak on Yom Kippur. It is the day of atonement for sins that man has committed against G-d.The trial begins on Rosh Hashanah and the final verdict is delivered on Yom Kippur.Yom Kippur ProhibitionsOn this day, we refrain from:Food and drink.BathingUse of cosmetic oils.Wearing leather shoes.Marital intimacy. The Torah says (Vaikra 16:31):“That you may humble your souls…”Spiritual contentYom Kippur is a day when a person moves away from everyday life and devotes all the strength of the soul to purification and repentance. The goal is to atone for the sins of the past year and rise to a new, higher spiritual level.Sefer HaHinuh (Commandment 313) explains:“God's goodness is that He has set aside one day in the year when people can atone for their sins through repentance. Therefore, we are commanded to fast: food, drink and other pleasures pull towards the material and prevent the soul from seeking the truth. This day is given to strengthen the soul so that it becomes worthy to receive the forgiveness of the Almighty. ”
